All About the Cattail Flower
Description of the Cattail Flower
The cattail is also known as the Typha. This flower is found in wetland habitats and it can be hard to grow it if you don’t have the right conditions. These flowers are pretty simple; they are a longer flower that can be about a foot long and about an inch and half thick. There is a male and female version of this flower, so the female flowers are going to be a little bit more beautiful and the male flowers are more for pollination purposes. There really isn’t a flower bloom like people are used to; it is more of a spike that is brow in color on top of a very long stem.
Uses for the Cattail Flower
The cattail isn’t necessarily a bouquet flower, but you will see cattails in some specified bouquets, more than likely though, people are using it more for the edible uses that it holds, it is much easier to use the flower for that than as a flower in a bouquet, it just don’t have a bouquet look to it. But, cattails are edible, and they are actually really good for you. What are generally eaten is the stems that grow underground. These stems actually are really good for you and they have a lot of energy in them. The spike at the top can also be eaten almost like corn in the cob. These plants were used in the past to give ancient tribes food and energy and they even used some parts of the cattails to make flour that they could bake things with. This is definitely a plant with many uses.
